There is no such thing as good painting about nothing

It is a widely accepted notion among painters that it does not matter what one paints as long as it is well painted. This is the essence of academicism. There is no such thing as good painting about nothing. Mark Rothko.

This inspiring words by one of my favourite artists are the source to some of my paintings and the study I do on the topic. But to be honest , it is not easy. I need to go and see his works sometimes when it comes to europe.
Anyway , I often get asked what style I am working in and which artists give me inspiration to my works.
To start with, I like art and particulary painting and visual expression in general. There is good and there is not that good, but whenever you look at art, you also have to consider the artists mind and what he or her wants to show you, if you see it, well that is a complete new question.
For me art is something what needs to leave the spiritual state into a shape of reality in whatever form the artist decides.
For myself I think the the best works originate when I dont think while working, when the hands do the job without getting commands where to go. It is a rare state of mind to get in and sometimes I am lucky to kind of get me there.
This should explain some of the style I work with. It is towards expressionism.
Just to mention some of the artists. There is the group of "Der Blaue Reiter" , a movement lasting from 1911 to 1914, fundamental to Expressionism . The first redux I made was a portrait of a boy by Alexej von Jawlensky . I just loved his colours and the his brushstrokes, still do, just like Vincents, but that's a different style.
Of course I have taken an intense look at Impressionism , and sometimes my work turns into that direction as well.
But seriously I am much more interested in the experiment, exploring the depth of the mind through abstract fantasy using paint and objects to create something we havn't seen.

Or what about an accidentel spot of paint on a virgin canvas leading to a serie of coloured explosions.

There is always so many stupid questions, but never enough for the right answer.

No more for today..... thanks for your attention so far.
